Onna-musha (女武者) is a term referring to female warriors in pre-modern Japan. The “Onna-Musha” were female members of the samurai (bushi) class in feudal Japan fighting alongside their male counterparts and were trained in use of weapons and strategy, to protect their household, family, and honor in times of war. As part of this program, students will learn key self-defense components of both “Aikijujutsu” and “Jujutsu”, with a specific focus on street awareness and self-defense for females (ages 14 to 50 plus). Classes will be taught directly by Norm Harrison Sensei with the assistance of his senior female students and black belts. Students will also have the opportunity to progress through the colour belt ranking system (white belt to black belt and beyond). You will learn:

  • Basic, intermediate and advanced self-defense techniques against attacks (strikes with or without a weapon, escapes from chokes, hair grabs, pins and ground escape techniques etc.).

  • The history of the “Onna-Musha” and “Onna-Bugeisha” female samurai of ancient Japan.

  • How to increase awareness and recognize potentially dangerous situations

  • How to roll and fall as self-defense measures

  • How to exploit your attacker’s weaknesses

  • How to build confidence through a "Will Win" positive attitude

  • How to use your environment to your advantage and much more...
