Sensei Harrison Norm has dedicated more than 45 years to the study and practice of martial arts and has spent over 35 years teaching and mentoring students of all ages. His lifelong commitment has been driven by a passion for personal growth, preserving the traditions of Japanese martial arts, and helping others develop confidence, discipline, respect, and strong character.
As the President, and Head Instructor of Aiki Canada Martial Arts, Sensei Harrison is dedicated to preserving the rich traditions and principles of Daito-ryu Aikijujutsu, one of Japan's oldest classical (Koryu) martial arts. Building upon decades of study and practical experience, he also founded Gendai Bushi (Modern Warrior), a contemporary martial arts system that combines traditional values with practical self-defence and modern combative principles. Through both systems, his mission is to develop well-rounded martial artists who possess technical excellence, humility, leadership, integrity, and a lifelong commitment to personal development.
Sensei Harrison's teaching philosophy extends far beyond physical techniques. He believes martial arts should strengthen the body, sharpen the mind, build confidence, and cultivate the character necessary to become respectful leaders within their families, workplaces, and communities.
Throughout his career, Sensei Harrison has gained extensive experience in tactical self-defence and has trained under numerous highly respected martial arts masters. His expertise has led him to provide instruction for law enforcement professionals, including members of the Toronto Police Service, the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP). He has also presented self-defence seminars and specialized training programs for businesses, schools, community organizations, and special interest groups throughout Ontario.
Today, Sensei Harrison continues to inspire students through traditional martial arts instruction while advancing the vision of Gendai Bushi (Modern Warrior)—a system designed to prepare today's martial artists with practical skills, strong values, and the warrior spirit needed to meet the challenges of modern life.
